Love
There are so many types of love. The love I feel for my yoga teacher when she says ‘good morning everyone’. The love I feel for small children and how they see the world. The love I feel when my retired parents are, finally, lying on a beach somewhere. The love I felt when my friend told me she was, finally, pregnant. The love I feel for my friend who always makes me laugh through my tears. The love when someone does something great, something that’s a big deal to them. The love for my cats when they’re curled up lying on the couch. The love for nature; the birds, the trees, the wind, the smells, the flowers, the rain, the sun, the shade, the water. God, how I love the water. I love when my friends eat something I made for them. I love learning new things. I love fabrics and fashion. I love art, books, theatre, comedy. I love music. I love stories. I love when people come together, standing shoulder to shoulder, driven by devotion to a better world. I love people lifting other people up. I love someone enjoying something when they think no one is watching. I love when people are very smart and wise and kind. And funny, because I love to laugh and I love other people laughing. And of course I love yoga.
All these things have nothing in common, except the fact that I love them. Love unites them. I might say ‘I enjoy, I am proud of, I am grateful for’ but underneath all of that is love. Love is the common denominator. And the beautiful thing about love is there can never be too much. Love amplifies love. Right?
I also really love writing. And I think I speak for all writers when I say, or better said, write that there will never be enough words to describe what love truly feels like. But we will keep trying. Because we love it.
“When all your neuroses cost you too much, you stumble into the heart. And when you’re in the heart, you look around and say, ‘Well, look at that—we’re all together in this thing.’”
