My name is Marta.

Although yoga has always been present in my life, I truly began practicing much later. Over twenty years ago, a colleague in art school introduced me to the traditional Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation), and from there my curiosity grew. In those days there weren’t that many yoga studios, but I tried as many as I could. One day, in a class with a substitute teacher, everything shifted — it was a Sivananda yoga practice, and it completely changed my path. Not long after, I found myself in India by the holy river Ganges doing my first teacher training. A favorite quote from Swami Vishnudevananda, the founder of one of the first teacher trainings, still guides me today:

“Health is wealth, peace of mind is happiness, yoga shows the way.”

My connection with Studio 108 began during the 108 Sun Salutations to celebrate the studio’s birthday. After class, as I was helping tidy up props and blankets, a friend turned to Sharon and said, “Marta is a born Karma Yogi.” Sharon smiled and replied, “Does she know we’re looking for Karma Yogis?” The rest unfolded naturally.
It’s a joy to offer my time and energy to such a wonderful place and community. Sharon’s kindness and generosity make it feel so natural to give back. You’ll often find me doing little things around the studio, though I’ll also be behind the desk to welcome you — especially if it’s your first time. After that, I suspect you’ll feel quite at home. I love all things yoga, so please feel free to ask or share your own experiences!
