Restorative Yoga
- Calm the nervous system and find deep rest
- Gentle warm up, followed by longer-held restorative postures
- Using props (blocks, belts, bolsters, wall)
Restorative Yoga is a deeply calming practice designed to soothe the nervous system and invite profound rest. Each class begins with a gentle warm-up, preparing the body to fully relax into longer-held, supported postures (asana). Props such as blocks, belts, bolsters, pillows, and the wall are used generously to ensure comfort and ease, allowing the body to release without effort.
While B.K.S. Iyengar pioneered the use of props in yoga, laying the groundwork for this approach, it was his student Judith Hanson Lasater—a physical therapist—who developed and popularized Restorative Yoga as a distinct practice. Her work emphasizes deep relaxation, restoration, and healing through fully supported poses.
This class is ideal if you feel the need to slow down, recharge, and restore balance, or if you are in a process of healing—physically, mentally, or spiritually.
Restorative Yoga is open to everyone, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. No prior yoga experience is needed—just a willingness to rest.
