Coming from intense sports like icehockey and kitesurfing, I was looking for a way to move my body without putting it under such pressure. I also wanted to be more flexible. The physical aspect of yoga practice was therefore what lured me in. Sounds familiar? I think for many of us the journey starts there.

But soon I learned that what I had considered yoga, was actually not yoga at all! It merely was the ladder, the tool or instrument that could lead me to yoga. And oh boy, did that make the practice more interesting! And not only the practice, but also life itself. As they are, after all, not too different from one another. My yoga practice helps me to deepen my relationship with the present moment, to show up fully to every aspect of myself and others. And by exploring all these aspects more and more, the differences between them sometimes become less important or visible than the similarities. And this feeling of connectedness is what I aim to bring into the classes that I teach.

In the 200h teacher training of De Nieuwe Yogaschool I learned how to make yoga accessible for the broader public. In the 500h teacher training of Svaha I learned about the vast and ancient foundation on which our modern day yoga is build. In the ashram(s) that I frequently visit I am learning about the importance of bringing our heart and action into our practice. And of the student I get to teach I learn something different every class. As teaching yoga is still yoga practice, just in a different role.

So join me on the mat, where we can inspire each other! As baba Ram Dass said: we are all walking each other home.
